Course Catalog: Body Literacy for Schools

The Empowered approach: Science-grounded, shame-free, and curriculum-aligned. We believe that understanding our bodies is a fundamental right. Our catalog is designed to provide schools with the tools they need to foster true body literacy, ensuring every student feels safe, informed, and empowered to navigate the transitions of puberty and beyond.

Education Levels Overview

AGES 5-7

Foundations

Building a clear language for body safety, boundaries, and understanding anatomical names without shame or confusion.

AGES 8-10

Body Changes

Navigating the early signs of puberty, emotional literacy, and establishing healthy hygiene and self-care habits for growth.

AGES 11-12

Puberty Prep

A comprehensive landing for reproductive health and the rapid hormonal shifts defining the move into early adolescence.

AGES 13-15

Body Literacy

Advanced body literacy focusing on cycle tracking, functional strength, and nutrition for the changing adolescent brain.

AGES 16-18

Empowerment

Mastering performance, endocrine health, and advocacy knowledge for a lifetime of confident body literacy.

Level 1: My Incredible Body Manual  (Grade 2)

Body Literacy

My Body Map
  • Use correct names (vulva, penis, etc.) as a safety shield.

  • Listen to heartbeats and explore the organs inside your body.

  • Discover how senses and "Fight or Flight" protect you.

Neuroscience

The Feelings Factory 
  • Meet the Brain Team: the "Guard Dog" and the "Pilot."

  • Learn about "Flipping the Lid" when feelings get big.

  • Understand that everyone feels and shows emotions uniquely.

Consent

The Invisible Bubble
  • Master the rule: "From my head to my toes, I can say what goes."

  • Practice personal space boundaries and asking for consent.

  • Identify a network of trusted adults to talk to anytime.

Level 2: The Mind-Body Decoder  (Grade 3)

Body Literacy

Inside-Out Awareness
  • Learn to read internal cues like the "Hunger Battery" and "Bladder Alarm".

  • Use "Rabbit vs. Turtle" movements to feel heart and breath rhythms.

  • Discover how temperature changes your internal comfort and relaxation.

Neuroscience

Not Quite Yet
  • Explore Neuroplasticity—the science of how your brain learns and grows.

  • Use the "Power of Yet" to build new pathways when things are hard.

Body Literacy

  • Meet hunger messengers Ghrelin and Leptin and their brain signals.

  • Discover "Steady vs. Racing Fuel" to power your daily performance.

  • Use mindful stomach checks to hear what your body needs.

Puberty 

The System Update 
  • Define puberty as the normal biological journey from child to adult.

  • Meet the Pituitary Gland, the "Master Switch" for your body's update.

  • Normalize physical shifts and the unique timeline for every individual.

Neuroscience

The Social Brain & Happy Chemicals
  • Learn why being left out feels like a physical "ouch" in the brain.

  • Build a "D.O.S.E." toolkit of happy chemicals to reset your mood.

  • Identify your "Safety Crew" for when you don't feel like yourself.

Level 4: The Great Identity Construction Zone  (Grade 5)

Body Literacy

The Digital Mirage
  • A deep dive into how our brains process imagery in an era of AI and filters. 
  • discussing and understanding the comparison loop
  • Body literacy reset. We bring the focus back to celebrating our bodies for all their variations. 

Puberty

The Command Centre 
  • A detailed discussion about the body as it changes and different biological milestones. 
  • A look at the internet and external anatomy and how they are impacted by puberty 
  • The normalisation scale, talking about what feels normal and what are "red flags"

Neuroscience

The Appreciation Circuit
  • Send of the mind. We talk about the words we have heard people use about their bodies and how it impacts us

  • Gratitude lab. We talk about the importance on focusing on the things are body does for us rather than how it looks and comparing it to others. 

Level 2: The Puberty Playbook (Years 5-6)

Masters of Our Systems
  • Situational safety and how to trust our gut if something doesn't feel safe. 
  • Emotional Mastery - the rage decoder - how to explore the surge of rage and where its actually coming from.

Puberty

The Biological Narrative
  • Understanding the stages of the menstrual cycle and how they impact females. 
  • In depth understanding of hormones and how they impact brain function during puberty 
  • In depth understanding of puberty, development and hygiene 

Neuroscience

The Resilience Toolbox
  • Building a personalised "Neuro-Transition Plan" for High School. 
  • Fight or Flight and how cortisol impacts our brain  signals.
  • Self belief hacks, confidence pathways and neuroplasticity for change and wellbeing. 

Human reproduction

The Journey of Life
  • A comprehensive session on how the human lifecycle continues
  • We discuss conception through intercourse but also through science, surrogacy and adoption.
  • Birth mechanics, shifting from the scary movie version to the basics through an empowerment lens
